FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answer to the most frequently asked questions about retroplace. We are adding new topics on a regular basis according to the questions being asked.
What we do (and what we don't)
retroplace is a website for gamers. We feature a huge database, collection management tool (which is free!) and a marketplace. It is important to understand that retroplace does not sell or buy items itself. It is the users of retroplace that buy and sell them. Please keep this in mind: If you have questions about your purchase, always contact the seller.
User profile
How can I change my username?
Unfortunately, changing your username is not possible.
Sell items
To be able to sell on retroplace, you must be at least 18 years old. You'll also need to include your full address, payment options for your shoppers and a payment souce for sales commissions. Also, you need to adjust your seller settings in your profile preferences.
If you are a business merchant, additional information is required to comply with applicable laws. You can find a detailed description in your profile settings.
How do I sell an item?
To offer a game on the marketplace, it must be in the retroplace database. You can search a game using the search box at the top of each page. If found, you will find a button "Vender" on the details page of the game.
Or: In the sidemenu, click LINK REMOVED. There you can enter the game you want to sell in a search field and you will be taken directly to the sales form, where you can enter all the necessary information like condition of the game, price, shipping costs etc. You can also upload up to six photos to give potential buyers a better understanding about your offer.
To avoid the need to specify shipping costs for each article over and over again, you may specify these in your seller settings. These are then used as a default for future offers. Of course, you can adjust the preset shipping costs while filling out the sales form.
Tip: The more precise your describe your offer, the more attractive your offer will be perceived by potential buyers.
But what do I do if my game (or the specific version of my game) is not found in the database?
No problem! If retroplace really does not know your game, you can add a new game in just a few seconds. Since you are holding the game right in your hands, you have all the necessary information in front of you. Be sure to read our guidelines for adding new games beforehand to avoid duplicates and other mistakes.
Once your game is added to the database, you can offer it on the marketplace as described above.
Be sure to pay attention to the correct version! As you surely know, games often come in different releases (Director's Cut, Limited Edition etc.) and are produced for different regions (Japan, US, Europe etc.). All these versions are distinguished by retroplace. That's why it's really important to choose the correct version when you're offering an item.
What are the sales commissions?
For a successful sale, each item will be subject to a 7 percent sales commission, but at least € 0.50 per item plus 7 percent of the shipping costs.
Here's an example: A buyer orders two games from you, one for 6.99 Euro, the other for 12.99 Euro. In addition, there are shipping costs of 3.00 Euro. The commission is then calculated as follows:
Price | Commission | Explanation |
---|---|---|
€ 6,99 | € 0,50 | Minimum of € 0,50 |
€ 12,99 | € 0,91 | 7 percent von € 12,99 |
€ 3,00 | € 0,21 | 7 percent von € 3,00 |
€ 22,98 | € 1,62 | Total |
Fees invoices of your sales that are more than a month old, are always sent on the first of a month and must be paid by PayPal or bank transfer (example: in March you will receive the fee invoice for the sales in January)
Buyers will not be charged any commissions.
Are there any setup fees for marketplace offers?
No. And there will never be.
Who is in charge when it comes to any problems with payments, refunds, shipping and the likes?
Terms and conditions regarding refunds is clearly stated before you place your order. retroplace takes no responsibility for refunds or returns.
As a marketplace, retroplace does not sell or buy items itself. It is the users of retroplace who buy and sell them. retroplace takes no responsibility over transactions made on the marketplace. We will help where we can, though, in case there is an issue.
How do I contact a buyer/seller?
After a marketplace transaction, select Mis compras or See Mis ventas from the Mercado menu. There you have the opportunity to get in touch with the buyer or seller. You can rate them, too, or inform them about the current status of payment and shipping.
How can I send a (partial) refund for an order?
That depends on the payment method: If the buyer has paid with PayPal, you can simply send a (partial) refund from within your PayPal account. In this case, retroplace will be informed automatically about the refund and displays it in the details of the order. The sales commission will also be adjusted accordingly if the sales commission has not yet been billed.
If the buyer paid by bank transfer, you can issue a (partial) refund via bank transfer. The account details of the buyer can be found in your bank statement. Since the sales commission can not be automatically corrected in this case, we need proof of the refund before we can adjust the sales commission.
Edit/add games
Please review our Best Practices for the Set and edit games. There you will find many valuable hints that will help to avoid mistakes and make the database of retroplace a little bit better every day.
I edited a game, but I do not see the changes. Why?
All changes will be reviewed by our support team. Edits are usually approved within 12 hours. If the edit was declined, you will receive an email with a reason for the rejection.
Managing your collection
How can I share my collection with others?
Just click on your avatar image in the upper right corner of the browser window. Now go to Preferencias and select the Colección tab. Here you can not only tell something about yourself and your collection but also determine whether the collection should be visible to everyone or just to you. You will also find a direct link (as a QR code, too) to your collection that you can share with your friends.
